Ask most people what they want and chances are they'll say they want to be 'happy'. And given the stresses, pressure, mounting to-dos and obligations we all face in modern life, it can often feel like happiness is some elusive far off state that 'one day' we will reach when x, y + z happens.

But want to know the truth?

Happiness is right here and now, in this moment. It's about choosing to be happy and making the most of what we have, despite our less than perfect circumstances.

Here are 15 ways you can be the happiest version of you…Starting right now...

1. Appreciate what you have.

There is always something to be grateful for + no matter how bad you think you have it, there will always be someone worse off than you. Focusing your energy on what you do have will remind you how incredibly blessed you are.

2. Surround yourself with positive people you love being yourself with.

Everything in your life right now is a mirror of your thoughts and your actions, so be sure to surround yourself with positive people who lift you up and support your dreams. Spending time around negative people who complain is a sure fire way to make yourself feel down. Remember: good vibes are contagious.

3. Keep learning everyday.

Keep your mind active and never stop learning. There is always something new to learn + when we do, we force ourselves to grow and get out of our comfort zone - the unchartered territory where possibilities are endless + magic happens.

4. Be kind to others + lift them up.

Make it your mission to spread love + kindness where ever you go. Everyone is fighting their own battle so be the person who lifts others up, inspires and spreads joy - you never know who needs your good energy.

5. Laugh.

Laughter is good for the soul. When we laugh, we release stress and endorphins that make us feel good. Remember the last time you had a good belly laugh + how wonderful it felt? Do it more often!

6. Look for the solution; don't dwell on the problem.

No matter what level of success you reach, there will always be challenges you face, but instead of dwelling on the problem, choose to look at how you can solve it.

7. Stop and smell the roses + celebrate how far you have come.

We're in a society where 'busyness' is seen as some sort of badge of honour + constantly moving from one thing to the next. Slow down; savour the moment and take the time to celebrate how far you've actually come.

Holding onto grudges is a waste of energy. Forgiving people, no matter who is wrong or right in the situation, means we can let go of any anger, resentment or bitterness we're holding on to.

11. Love, unconditionally.

To love truly someone, despite of their flaws + imperfections is to accept them 100% for who they are. Placing conditions + expectations on the people we care most about is a sure fire way to be disappointed.

12. Believe in yourself.

If you don't believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to? Bet on yourself; know your worth and don't settle for anything less than you deserve!

13. Nourish your body.

The way you treat your body is a reflection of what you think of yourself. Respect it by fuelling yourself with the right foods, exercise and get enough rest; this will ensure you can show up and live the life you'd always imagined.

14. Let go of the need to be right.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter who is wrong or is right and by letting go of any attachment to the outcome will free your head space + energy for far more important things that warrant your attention!

15. Always have hope.

Life is all about the ebbs and flows and even the toughest of situations will soon pass. Just have the strength + perseverance to ride it out through the storm and trust that there are far greater things that lie ahead.
