Have you ever found yourself in a crappy situation that leaves you feeling like all you want to do is curl up and hide away from the world? Yep, that’s how I’ve felt the last month or so after something I was not expecting to happen, suddenly did.

If there’s anything I’ve learned after going through a mountain of tough times in the past, it’s that during times like this, it's vital to reconnect with yourself and work out what is important to you.

This is is easier said that done, but today I’m going to share with you the 5 mindfulness practices I’ve been focusing on to help me gain clarity and get back in a positive headspace.

1. Create space.

Step away from the situation, give yourself the time and space to be able to think clearly about what YOU want, what is important to you and get the clarity you need to make a decision.

There is no right or wrong answer, but having perspective on a situation will always help bring you the answers you’re looking for.

2. Be vulnerable + reach out to people.

Putting yourself out there and exposing your inner most feelings is a hard thing to do, especially when you're nursing a heck of a lot of pain. But when you do, you're opening yourself up for real human connection. Surround yourself with people you love and trust - they will be there to catch you.

3. Focus on the good.

Despite life handing down a sh*t sandwich, there is still a whole lot of good and that's what I’ve been focusing on. Yes things are hard, confronting and emotionally draining, but instead of allowing yourself to get consumed by the negative, shift your focus to look at the good. There is always something to be grateful for.

4. Self-Care.

Honour your needs. If you need to take time out from work and life, do it. Be kind to yourself. Meditate. Go for a walk. Light a candle and immerse yourself in a good book. Write yourself a love letter to remind yourself how freaking awesome you are.

5. Be true to you.

Above anything else, the most important thing you can do is to be true to who you are and your values. Ignoring how you feel, your needs and wants is a sure fire way to be miserable.  The biggest gift you can give yourself is to embrace being imperfectly YOU.

Life is a beautiful thing and it’s a God-given reality that it’s going to be filled with challenges, but you always have a choice in how you respond.

Never stop showing up, always have hope and trust that this too shall pass. It’s just a bump in the road that will only make you stronger.

How do you deal with bumps in the road? What advice do you have for getting centred + back to you?

Much love,

Rachel xx
